Description

Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $1 PMG About Uncirculated 53.
The $1 value was the lowest denomination authorized for the first issue of Continental Currency and is, surprisingly, the second rarest note from this issue, bested only by the $20 "polychrome" denomination which was printed on special marbled paper provided by Benjamin Franklin. In fact, as a general rule, the $1 tends to often be more difficult to acquire than the seemingly more exotic odd denomination higher value notes from the various Continental Currency series. The $1 design features an emblem depicting a weighted bowl sitting on top of an acanthus plant with the motto DEPRESSA RESURGIT (Though crushed it recovers) while the back has a nature print of ragweed and willow leaves. Well printed on good paper with clear margins that are a bit tight, the note has clear strong signatures of William Jackson and Andrew Bunner.
