Description

Continental Currency January 14, 1779 $65-$60-$55-$50 Strip of Four Extremely Fine.
This is an unusual issue to find as a multiple, as Continental Currency multiples of more than two notes rarely appear. Some of the odd denominations that are peculiar to this final issue of Continentals are on this sheet. All of the examples are individually appealing and fully issued with penned strong signatures of both John Lawrence and Lodowick Sprogell. Sprogell was a merchant who had a store on Second Street in Philadelphia and he regularly placed advertisements in the Pennsylvania Gazette. There are larger stained areas, particularly along the left side of the strip. As individual notes, despite condition issues, these would likely add up to $1,000 or so in market value. As a rare strip of four one can only imagine.
