Description

Continental Currency February 26, 1777 $30 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
Part of an emission of $5,000,000 that was authorized by a Resolution of February 26, 1777 in Baltimore (at the time Philadelphia was occupied by the British), this $30 note features an emblem depicting a wreath over a tomb with the motto SI RECTE FACIES (If you act righteously you will be honored after death) on the face and two complementary emblems on the back; one of a strong wind creating waves with the motto VI CONCITATE (Driven by force) and the second depicting the sun shining on ships in a calm sea with the motto CESSANTE VENTO CONQUIESCEMUS (When the storm dies down we will rest). The note is boldly printed on good paper with decent margins and features signatures of George Welsh and another signer whose signature is a bit too faded to precisely attribute. PMG mentions that this note has been previously mounted although evidence of that is faint and of little impact. One of the nicer notes registered in the PMG Population Report.
