Description

Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $2 PMG Uncirculated 62.
Part of a $4,000,000 emission dated February 17, 1776, this $2 features an emblem depicting grain being threshed with a flail having the motto TRIBULATIO DITAT (Affliction improves it). The back has a nature print of a raspberry and two filbert leaves. The note is clearly printed, including the nature print, with faded red ink signature of William Coats and bold brown signature of John Williams, a member of the Continental Congress. The right half of the note is heavily toned/stained. Wide left selvage adds to the visual appeal of this piece. A very popular denomination for Continental banknotes.
