The appealing emblem on this lightly circulated $50 is a pyramid with 13 steps that was designed to illustrate the strength and unity of the states. PERENNIS (everlasting) is the motto. Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, designed new emblems and border cuts for the $50 and $60 denominations beginning with this issue. The design on the back includes arrows.
