Description
Continental Currency May 10 1775 $20. This $20 from the First Issue is the rarest of all the Continentals. It's a different size than any other Continental with a wholly different layout, as well as being printed on a whiter, weaker paper. It also features a multi-colored left end as an anti-counterfeiting device. The paper for the notes was furnished by Benjamin Franklin. This note is difficult to grade as it has the look of a perfect XF but it has considerable well-done restorations. Rounded corners at the left have been squared off and the marbling has had about 1/8 inch added. At the right edge a 1/2 by 1 inch piece has been replaced, apparently with parts of a matching note. The overall effect is excellent and the note appears perfect unless examined with great care. The fairest overall net grade is Very Fine.Auction Info
