Description

Continental Currency April 11, 1778 $8 Gem New. Beautifully centered, well signed and problem free. This is one of the very nicest examples of any denomination that we've seen from this only rare Continental issue. The rarity of the issue is due to the large quantity of excellent counterfeits sponsored by the British that undermined the issue shortly after it appeared. The Continental Congress called the entire issue in for exchange by its January 2, 1779 resolution. The exchange was to be accomplished prior to June 1, 1779. Few examples escaped the exchange, and the majority of the notes that are seen are counterfeits. This high-end beauty is absolutely genuine, and very rare in this grade.
