Account Receipt of Clothing Delivered to Colonel Samuel Wyllys's Regiment Not Graded.
West Point. April 19, 1778. Received of Benjamin Welles of the Commissary Sundry. Delivered to soldiers in Colonel Samuel Wyllys's Regiment. Signed by Joseph Perry Esq. at bottom. Docketed on verso. On May 30, 1777, Benjamin Welles was appointed Issuing Commissary of supplies to the Connecticut troops. He held this position for just over fifteen months. The Continental Army had first taken West Point, New York in January 1778. From 1777 to 1781 Colonel Samuel Wyllys commanded the 3rd Connecticut Regiment in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army. His regiment served primarily in New York. Like all members of the Wyllys family, Samuel is buried in Hartford's Ancient Burying Ground. This document has some edge roughness and chipping.
