Description

Bright & Popular 1922 $500 Gold Certificate

Fr. 1217 $500 1922 Gold Certificate PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30.
An example of the ever popular 1922 $500 Gold type is featured in this lot. The Track & Price Census records a total of 67 representatives of this number in existence, with our current offering being a new addition to that count, but five of those pieces are locked away in the collections of the ANA, Smithsonian, and Federal Reserve Banks of Chicago, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. While evidence of its time in circulation is visible, this note retains excellent ink colors and eye appeal, especially on the back. The portrait of a subtly smiling President Abraham Lincoln at left is complemented by a bright, small red Treasury Seal at lower center on the face. The last PCGS Banknote certified representative of this number that we offered which was graded at the VF 30 level realized $19,800 in May 2025. PCGS Banknote indicates the presence of pinholes on this piece which are minor and detract very little from the note's overall appearance.
