Attractive Corvallis Red Seal - The Second Note Reported
Corvallis, OR - $20 1902 Red Seal Fr. 641 The Benton County
National Bank Ch. # (P)8750 PMG Very Fine 25.This appealing Red Seal is only the second note to be reported from an excessively rare Corvallis bank that issued only from 1907 through 1916. Prior to this evening, just one other note was in the census from this charter - a $5 Date Back that last appeared on the market in our sale of The Dusty Gibson Collection in 2004. As that piece only graded Very Good, this Red Seal is easily the finer of the pair. It is a bright and crisp $20 with even wear, a bold red overprint, and the clear pen signature of the bank's president. A significant Oregon rarity that should generate serious attention this evening.
