Description

Blountsville, AL- R.B. Montgomery $1 Apr. 1, 1862 Gunther-Derby AO-120-$1a Rosene 22-1 PMG Choice Fine 15.
Merchant R(obert) B(artley) Montgomery issued an April 1, 1862, series of notes which was payable in currency when presented in sums of ten dollars. None of the designs in the series bear an imprint. At left on this $1 is a depiction of Justice with her scales which was also featured on the T15 Confederate Treasury Notes of 1861. At center lies a map of the state of Alabama. This is the first time that this exact note has been offered in over two decades, and unlike most examples from the issuer, it has survived without attracting any meaningful condition impairments.
