Description

Eufaula (Irwinton), AL- Young, Woods & Gardner 25¢ Feb. 1, 1838 Gunther-Derby AO-187-$.25a Rosene 147-1 PMG Choice Fine 15.
This February 1, 1838, dated note features a depiction of an early passenger locomotive at upper right. The city name of Irwinton printed on this example was utilized until 1843, when the city's name was changed to Eufaula. Thus, the fact that "Eufaula" was handwritten in pink ink over the Irwinton name suggests that this note was in circulation at least through 1843. We have offered just two representatives of this variety prior to now.

Estimate: $400 - up.
