Description

Essay Face and Back Engraving Without Bronze Oval Essay D-5-18-63 Surcharge Milton 2E25FR.2a 25¢ Second Issue PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The face is normal except it lacks the bronze oval. The back is a deep purple and carried the rare D-5-18-63 surcharge. This surcharge variety was not used for regular issue notes. In Milton Friedberg's 2000 sixth edition of The Encyclopedia of United States Postage & Fractional Currency, Milt states on page 75 that the rarity of this number is unique. This note was last at auction as lot 2076 on June 20, 1977 by Bowers & Ruddy. Our current offering matches the plated lot 2076 note. A great Fractional from the collection of an advanced collector.

Estimate: $500 - up.
