Description
Olney, AL- Unknown Issuer 12-1/2¢-25¢-50¢ 1838 Gunther-Derby AO-386-$.125- AO-386-$.25a- AO-386-$.50a Uncut Sheet PCGS Banknote Very Fine 30.Only remainders are known at present, making the identification of the issuer problematic. The stock design notes were sold by Manly & Orr of Philadelphia with each having standard vignettes and layouts. The notes were given customer-specific information when the text was added to the partially printed notes. This emission was quite complex with three different 25¢ and four different 50¢ designs included in the lineup. With all three notes having portraits of Franklin and Washington, the 12-1/2¢ note features a vignette of a cherub under a tree, the 25¢, a woman standing by an urn which is sitting on a column, and the 50¢, a scene from the War of 1812 Battle of Lake Erie. The individual notes are well printed on bright paper with a number of broad sheet folds. The top and right sheet margins have the natural deckling that was the result of the papermaking process. Only two uncut sheets of this configuration are known to us at present.
