Description

Unique for the Bank and Town

Wheatland, WY - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 615 The First National Bank Ch. # (W)8432 PMG Choice Fine 15.
Our wonderful offering of outstanding Wyoming notes continues with this incredible Red Seal that is the only note known from this southeastern Wyoming location. Before the late 19th century, the area around the future site of Wheatland was a flat, arid landscape with desert-like vegetation. However, as the result of the construction of an extensive irrigation system, the area developed into a flourishing agricultural community. The First National opened its doors in 1906 but, after issuing a mere 727 sheets of Red Seal notes, it elected to close and merge into a state-chartered institution in town, the State Bank of Wheatland. Today, just one note is known from that short-lived charter and that is the piece we are pleased to offer this evening. Crossing the auction block for the first time, this moderately circulated $10 has had some repair work, but it retains very nice color and bold pen signatures. It is truly a great Wyoming rarity fit for the finest of collections. (Total: 2 notes)
