Description

Very Rare Fort Fairfield, ME Small Size - One of Three Reported

Fort Fairfield, ME - $5 1929 Ty. 2 The First National Bank Ch. # 13843 PMG Very Fine 20.
Rising from the ashes of its predecessor, the Fort Fairfield National Bank which was closed by the receiver in January of 1934, the First National Bank was only able to issue a handful of small size Type 2 $5s and $10s before the end of the note issuing period in 1935. With an outstanding circulation at that time of just $9,950, it is not surprising that just three pieces are known today. However, of that trio, only this $5 has ever appeared at public sale and that lone occurrence was in our 2011 FUN auction. A well centered example exhibiting just even wear, it provides an opportunity for one fortunate collector to finally obtain this rare charter.
