Description

Fort Smith, AR- W.B. Sutton 50¢ Aug. 1, 1862 Rothert 238-2 PMG Very Fine 25.
W.B. Sutton was a successful merchant in Fort Smith. Records for Sutton in his profession exist as early as 1852. Later in his career, he was part founder in the partnership Sutton and Spring. We have only auctioned an example of this 50¢ note, which was given an R7 rarity, 1-5 known, in the Rothert reference, once prior to now. That representative, a raw Fine, realized $253 in October 2006. PMG mentions stains on our current offering.

Estimate: $175 - up.
