Description
Fort Smith, AR- E.S. Mitchell 50¢ Aug. 1, 1862 Rothert 236-2 PMG Very Fine 20.Although this note was simply enough payable in Fort Smith, the issuer was a Fort Smith merchant who issued a rather complex set of notes some of which were payable in places as diverse as Doaxville and Boggy Depot, Indian Territory, and Dardanelle, AR. The note was redeemable in Confederate Treasury Notes when presented in sums of $5 or upwards. PMG notes splits. Surprisingly, this is the first 50¢ denomination we have offered from this issuer.
Estimate: $250 - up.
