De Witt, AR- J.B. Inman 50¢ Apr. 13, 1862 Rothert 150-1 PMG Choice Fine 15.While this note has traditionally been attributed to J.N. Inman, your cataloger believes that a strong case can be made for J.B. Inman. Based on the handwriting on this and another example, the second initial certainly seems to be a "B" and a Jesse B. Inman is listed in the 1860 Federal census for Crocketts Bluff, AR, less than 14 miles away, as a grocer. This note was receivable for merchandise or was redeemable in unspecified types of currency when presented in sums of $5. We are aware of three surviving examples of this note at present.
