Description

Finest of Three Known

Franklinville, NY - $5 1875 Fr. 402 The First National Bank Ch. # 2345 PCGS About New 53.
A very rare note, this Series 1875 $5 comes from a far western New York bank that issued Series 1875 and Brown Back $5s only before electing to close in 1900 and merge with its competitor in town, the Farmers National Bank. Just three notes are known from this charter - a Brown Back in Fine which last appeared on the market in our 2005 FUN Auction, an impaired PMG Extremely Fine 45 Series 1875 $5, and the piece that we pleased to offer this evening. Clearly the superior of the known trio, it is as pretty as it is rare, with wonderful color, lovely paper surfaces and dark pen signatures. Only minor handling prevents consideration for an even higher grade.
