Description

Marshall, TX- Treasury Agency - Trans-Miss. Department $232.40 Aug. 23, 1864 PMG Very Fine 25.
Marshall served as a depository for the Trans-Mississippi Department, with M.J. Hall appointed as Principal Depositary in February 1863. Marshall served as an important transportation and communications hub and also as the headquarters for the Trans-Mississippi Postal Department after the fall of Vicksburg. A rare document from the historic Trans-Mississippi Department, reminiscent of Texas Treasury Warrants, with a small train vignette and an end panel containing TREASURY DRAFT. PMG mentions a tear and minor ink burn, neither of which are overly distracting.
