Description

New York, NY- Globe Bank $500 Post Note Apr. 21, 1840 G20 PMG Very Fine 30.
A newspaper notice dated June 9, 1840, indicated that the bank was a non-existent fraudulent firm. The $500 design is quite similar to those of the other post notes issued during this firm's brief existence. A floating allegorical woman holds a cornucopia at center and an additional vignette of a mother and child is at left. A large 500 is in the right end panel. Scarcer than the more commonly encountered lower denominations from this issuer.

Estimate: $500 - up.
