Description

Lebanon, PA- Lebanon Valley Bank $1 Apr. 11, 1862(?) G2a PMG Choice Fine 15.
The bank was organized in 1857 and remained in business until becoming the Valley National Bank of Lebanon in 1864. Printed by National Bank Note Company, this unusual design has just one vignette, that of a farm wife and child herding cattle through a gate, flanked by two massive green panels, somewhat in the style of early Federal notes that were beginning to make their appearance in commerce when this note was issued. Aside from some inconsequential edge roughness, this note has escaped its time in circulation without attracting any repairs or meaningful impairments and will appeal to collectors who prefer issued notes to remainders or Proofs. While a number of remainders and Proofs have surfaced over the years, this is only the second issued $1 that we have offered in the last two decades and may be one of only of a handful of survivors in issued form.
