Description
Clearfield, PA- Clearfield County Bank $1 Oct. 15, 1863(?-Faded) as G2a Hoober 68-1 PMG Choice Fine 15.The bank was organized in 1861 and remained in business as a state bank until being placed in liquidation on July 17, 1878. It was subsequently reorganized and remained in business as a private bank until closing on December 16, 1891. The $1 design is slightly different than that listed in Haxby in that it has only a partially printed date rather than a full September 9, 1863, printed date. The featured vignettes include the state free banking die at left, a woodsman taking a break at left center, a hunting dog with wildlife taken during a hunting trip at right center, and a young woman seated with produce and agricultural products at lower right. The design is completed by a large green 1 protector and a green ONE protector panel. This is the first $1 in fully issued form that we have offered.
