Description

Pennsylvania October 1, 1773 5s PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
An exemplary piece of colonial era printing craftsmanship, this is as good as it gets. These columned Pennsylvania notes are often seen with at least one tight or even trimmed margin, but such is not the case here. The face shows a single crown at center denoting the denomination. The back displays an intricate farming seen. "To Counterfeit is Death" seen above, and "Printed by Hall and Sellers" below. Darkly inked signatures are seen on the face by Benedict Dorsey, John Lownes, and Robert Tuckniss. This note is tied for "top pop" at PMG for the 5s denomination. Across the entire series they have only graded two Gem 66 EPQ notes with none better. Unless you flew to the moon recently, you realize how prices for condition census colonials have soared.
