Description

Lexington, IN- Indiana Manufacturing Company $3 May 15, 1815 Wolka 1315-02 PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The Indiana Manufacturing Company's only product was an avalanche of worthless bank notes which it was prepared to loose on the public. The notes from this firm are part of one of the very few Territorial issues from the state of Indiana which became a state on December 11, 1816, and clearly state Indiana Territory in each note's end panel. This paper mill's life was cut short before much of its circulation could be put to work, with several principals being indicted for fraudulent activity and imprisoned. The notes have a standard early 1800s layout with no vignettes and simple end panels. Not excessively rare, but popular due to its Territorial status.
