Description

Hartford, CT- Connecticut River Banking Company $2 Nov. 1, 1852 G24a PMG Choice Fine 15 Net.
The company was originally chartered in May 1824 for the purpose of improving navigation on the Connecticut River. In May 1825, its charter was amended to allow banking operations once certain conditions had been met, and by 1829 the wheels were put in motion to create and open the Connecticut River Banking Company. The bank successfully navigated many challenges including wars and financial panics until it merged with the Hartford National Bank and Trust Co. on November 1, 1954. The $2 deign features a large portrait of Franklin flanked by Agriculture and Commerce at center flanked by an oval portrait of Washington in the left end panel and a vignette of Liberty seated at lower right. A large blue TWO protector completes the design. Excessively rare with Whitman indicating None Known and Haxby listing the design as SENC (surviving example not confirmed). As a bonus, this is a fully issued example that is free of repairs and meaningful impairments aside from some rust which is not overly distracting, particularly on a note of this rarity.
