Bibb Furnace, AL- Bibb Furnace Co. 25¢ ND UNL Remainder PMG
Choice Extremely Fine 45 EPQ.The Bibb Furnace served as a key iron manufacturer for the Confederacy during the Civil War. This 25¢ example represents a design which is unlisted in both the Gunther-Derby and Rosene references. Neither the face nor the back includes a date upon which this piece was issued. It is reasonable to assume, however, that an appropriate range would be the 1870s-80s. An ornate green back details that the note was redeemable in products at the Bibb Furnace Company's store. We have not previously had the opportunity to auction a representative of this design. PMG has granted the note its coveted EPQ modifier for fully original paper surfaces. This unassuming note could very well be the only one in existence from this issuer for its denomination.
