Description

Austin, TX- Consolidated Fund of Texas $1,000 Mar. 9, 1840 Cr. UNL Medlar UNL PCGS Banknote Choice VF 35.
Yet another $1,000 Consolidated Fund of Texas note which is unlisted in both the Criswell and Medlar references, this piece features a large black "ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS" in block letters at upper center. The printed date and place of issuance have been crossed out in pink ink and replaced with Austin as the city and March 9, 1840, as the date. A chain link border and two simple end panels, one indicating the denomination at right and the other stating "PUBLIC FAITH PLEDGED" at left, complete the design. We have not auctioned an example of this particular design and denomination previously. While the note displays moderate amounts of wear and has a contemporary annotation which details the terms of an interest payment at right, it is uncancelled, a rarity for representatives from the series.
