Description

Tioga, PA- Tioga County Bank $10 18__ as G8a Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The Tioga County Bank opened in 1857 and continued in business until 1867, when it was succeeded by the private banking firm B.C. Wickham & Co. which failed in 1883. The $10 design features a group of men rafting down a river with steamboat in the distance. This flanked by an oval portrait of James Pollock, Governor of Pennsylvania (1855-58) and future Director of the Mint (1861-66; 1869-79) at left and a vignette of a young sailor doffing his hat at right. The note is printed on India paper with six POCs in the signature lines and minor tears as noted by PMG. There were four examples of this note (with no tint) in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
