Description

Erie, PA- Bank of Commerce $10 Feb. 29, 1860 G4b PCGS Banknote Very Fine 25.
The Erie City Bank failed on January 7, 1857, and was revived under the name of the Bank of Commerce with new officers in 1858. The newly named bank's lifespan was short, failing on November 21, 1860. The $10 design features a large center vignette of a sidewheeler steamer flanked by portraits of Jackson at left and a young woman at right. The note has a red overall tint as well as two red X protectors. The back has a rubberstamp advertising the business of J.D. Standish, a Detroit, MI, dealer in grain and wool. PCGS Banknote mentions some pinholes which are of little consequence. 1860 was a leap year as evidenced by the issue date of February 29, 1860.
