Description

Port Jervis, NY- Bank of Port Jervis $50 18__ as G24 Proof PMG Choice About Unc 58.
The bank was organized in 1853 and remained in business until succeeded by the National Bank of Port Jervis which was chartered on June 29, 1865. The $50 design features a large vignette of men at work on the floor of an iron foundry. This is flanked by a vignette of a farm girl at lower left and the portrait of a young woman, taken from life, at lower right. A large red FIFTY protector across the face of the note completes the design. The note is printed on India paper and has no forms of cancellation present. There were ten examples of this note in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, which probably account for the entire surviving population of this note in Proof form.
