Description

Binghamton, NY- Bank of Binghamton $2 Apr. 1, 1857 as G4 PCGS Very Fine 20.
The bank was organized in August 1852 and remained in business until 1865 when it was succeeded by the City National Bank of Binghamton which was chartered on May 27, 1865. The $2 design features a bald eagle perched on a tree limb with a canal in the distance. The state Bank Department die is at bottom center. Minerva is seated at bottom left and Justice is seated at bottom right. A large red TWO protector covers a potion of the lower center of the face. Haxby lists this denomination in Proof form only and this is the only issued example of which we are aware at present.
