Description

Newton, NJ- Sussex Bank $1 18__ as G10a Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The Sussex Bank opened in 1818 and remained in business until it was succeeded by the Sussex National Bank of Newton which received its charter on March 22, 1865. The $1 design features a vignette of a farm family returning from the fields taking a breather and chatting with the local blacksmith. A large red ONE protector appears at bottom center. The note is printed on India paper with four POCs in the signature lines, with PMG mentioning some pinholes that are not overly distracting. Around twenty of this variety with the red ONE protector appeared in various lots in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale.
