Description

Deckertown, NJ- Farmers Bank of Wantage $10 Aug. 1, 1862 G10d as Wait 472 PMG Very Fine 25.
The bank was organized in 1849 and remained in business until converting to the Farmers National Bank of Deckertown (later Sussex) in 1865. The $10 design features a large rendition of the coat of arms of New Jersey at center and a vignette of a Native American male at right. The face has striking red-brown X end panels and a red-brown TEN protector at bottom center while the back has an overall red-brown tint with a large white TEN. We have only offered one other example of this late variety previously. PMG notes cancellation and small pinholes.
