Description
Postally Cancelled Before April 13, 1976 Fr. 1935-K $2 1976 Federal Reserve Notes. Three Examples. The official first day of issue was April 13, 1976 for $2 FRNs. However, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing had a goal of shipping 225,000,000 newly printed $2s to banks by this date. Therefore, notes can be found with early postal cancellations with due diligence. Serial 01234600 grades PCGS Choice New 63PPQ and it was postally cancelled on "Apr 2 1976" without an attached first class stamp. Cancellation without a first class stamp was technically against the USPS rules for these items, but the postal clerks either did not know or did not care. The other two deuces are consecutive and were postally cancelled on "Apr 9, 1976" with Iowa and Missouri state flag stamps. They both grade PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ. The Iowa flag and cancellation are on the back. All three Dallas $2s were postally cancelled at the Fort Worth Central Station. (Total: 3 notes)
