Description
T43 $2 1862 PF-1 Cr. 338 PMG Choice Fine 15.A well circulated but bright T43, this deuce carries a colorful past. Blanton Duncan, the creator of this type, was known for his eccentricity and was prone to carrying out actions without approval. This was the case with the T43; Duncan added the green underprint without the consent of the Confederate government and proceeded to attempt to charge an additional fee for it. As the government would not pay this fee, Duncan soon dropped the feature. As such, this type is much less common than its T42 $2 counterpart, which did not possess an underprint. PMG mentions a tape repair to a tear at left on the note in this lot.
