Description

(Abbeville), LA- Parish of Vermilion $3 July 21, 1862 PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20 Details.
While artistically rather plain, with simple end panels being the sole ornamentation, this note is quite rare. It is, in fact, the first $3, and only the second note that we have offered from this parish, with the other example being a $1 bearing a different issue date. PCGS Banknote indicates that this note has been severed and reattached, utilizing stamp hinge reinforcements. The vertical separation traverses the note from the top edge between the "o" and "n" of "Vermilion" and down between "when" and "presented," continuing to the bottom edge, passing just to the right of "CLERK." Experienced parish note collectors will likely not fixate on this impairment, with the note's rarity trumping this fault. As a frame of reference, the impaired $1, in slightly better condition, realized $840 in our 2020 FUN Currency Signature Auction.
