Part of the last regular Continental emission of January 14, 1779 totaling just over $95,000,000, the face of this $40 note features an emblem depicting the all-seeing Eye of Providence shining on thirteen stars (representing the thirteen colonies) and an altar with the motto CONFEDERATION while the back has a nature print of poterium leaves. Minor repairs have been made to the edges.
