Description

Continental Currency May 9, 1776 $1 PMG About Uncirculated 55.
It often surprises non-collectors to learn that the $1 denomination is much scarcer than some other seemingly odd denomination Continental Currency notes in most cases. That is the case here as well. This example features an emblem of a weighted bowl on an acanthus plant with the motto DEPRESSA RESURGIT (Though crushed it recovers) on the face and a nature print of ragweed and willow leaves on the back. It is crisply printed on bright paper with decent margins and clear signatures of Joseph Redman and William Masters. This offering is one of the higher graded examples of this Friedberg number, with six notes in higher grades and 34 in lower grades in the PMG Population Report at present.
