Description
Selma, AL- Alabama & Tennessee R.R. Road Jan. 1862 Gunther-Derby AO-412-$.05a Rosene 290-2 PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15 Details. The Alabama & Tennessee River Rail Road was chartered in Alabama in 1848. It constructed 135 miles of railroad line between Selma and Blue Mountain, AL, including a 22.5 mile extension from Blue Mountain toward Dalton, GA, in 1862. After the war, the line was consolidated with two others to become the Selma, Rome & Dalton Rail Road during the course of 1866-67. The 5¢ design is printed in dark blue ink and features vignettes of blindfolded Justice standing at left, and a passenger train at top center. The note has a narrow swath of rust spots and an edge tear that extends under the "TS" in "CENTS" at right. We are aware of two surviving examples at present.
Estimate: $150 - up.
