Cahawba, AL- State of Alabama $5 July 10, 1821 Cr. UNL Gunther-Derby AS-001-$5g PCGS Banknote Very Fine 20.Similar to Criswell C26 except that FIVE DOLLARS is in Old English script letters, this $5 was payable to William B. Allen, one of the principals of the state printer, Allen & Brickell. It is hammer canceled. We have handled one other example over the years, the Gunther-Derby plate note, and are aware of perhaps three or so pieces altogether.
