Description
Low Serial Number A57B Fr. 40 $1 1923 Legal Tender PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.Low two-digit serial number A57B adds to the appeal of this bright, boldly printed example of this popular type note. This note was acquired by our consignor at the Memphis International Paper Money Show auction as lot number 232 in June 1999. Serial number A57B was once part of a cut sheet owned by Dallas oil man and coin and paper money collector Robert F. Schermerhorn. He attended in person the auction of the King Farouk Collection held in February and March 1954 at the Koubbeh Palace in Cairo, Egypt. Mr. Schermerhorn died on August 28, 1957 at the age of 49. Many notes from the Schermerhorn estate were purchased by fellow Dallasites William Philpott and Harry Bass. The depth of the Schermerhorn Collection can be seen by the fact that his name is listed as a previous owner for approximately 450 notes in United States Paper Money Records compiled by Martin Gengerke.
