Split Note Fr. 217 $1 1886 Silver Certificate Face Only Poor.We believe that this is a split note that was executed with a razor blade, a steady hand, and plenty of time. This is the best looking split note that we have laid our eyes on in almost 50 years. This can only be done on notes that were printed with the wet intaglio method. The dry intaglio method was introduced with Series 1963. Not surprisingly, there is a large extra thin area in the paper of the example in this lot. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
