Charleston, SC- Bank of the State of South Carolina $2; $5 1862 Extremely Fine; About Uncirculated.
The $2 note depicts the state capitol in Columbia that was damaged during the fall of Columbia to Union forces in February, 1865 and is neatly canceled with two concentric circle cut cancels. It also has a rubberstamp on the back indicating it was part of the post war litigation surrounding a dispute over the bank's efforts to declare bankruptcy as well as how it prioritized creditor payments. The note has two two hammer cancels and a similar post war rubberstamp on the back. (Total: 2 notes)
