Description

Nashville, TN- Bank of Tennessee, payable in Memphis $20 Oct. 1, 1859 Fine.
Trio of allegorical women are seen at center. Columbia is depicted at right and Zachary Taylor is shown at left. An orange tinted front with white TWENTY across bottom complete the design. Imprint of Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co., Phila and New York. The officers' signatures are bold. An elaborate orange design enhances the back. There are a handful of small pinholes that do not distract and two POCs. Almost all the examples we see bear a Civil War era date, and were printed by the American Bank Note Company, who utilized an elaborate blue back design. The antebellum notes, printed by TCC & Co., bore a branch mint payable designation and are many times scarcer. This is a great note.
