Crimean War-tied Advertising Note

New York, NY- J. Romaine-Romaine's Crimean Bitters "100" Advertising Note ND (ca. 1850s-60s) Vlack 2790 PMG Extremely Fine 40.
An unusual advertising note, with a vignette at center of what is likely the Bomarsund Fortress, a Russian fortification attacked and captured during the summer of 1854 as part of the Crimean War (1853-56). A closer inspection of the vignette finds damage to the fortress walls and tower and besieging artillery positions in the foreground. A second small vignette of stands of arms and military tents at bottom center also links the note to the war. The promoted product, Romaine's Crimean Bitters, was touted as curing "dyspepsia, constipation, debility, head ache, colic & fever & ague" as well as the "effects of late hours." PMG mentions minor corner damage (a tiny edge divot at lower right that is outside of the frameline). A rare military-themed note tied to one of the major current events of the 1850s, the Crimean War. We have offered only one other example of this great note that was in much lower condition.
