Description

New Haven, CT- Mechanics Bank $50-$100 18__ Uncut Pair Extremely Fine;
Windsor, VT- Bank of Windsor $5-$5 18__ Uncut Pair Choice About Uncirculated.
The New Haven pair includes a partial note at top and the Windsor pair includes a partial note at both top and bottom. Occasionally banks had a need for only some of the denominations appearing on a plate as was apparently the case with the two in this lot. In these instances, the bank note company would simply ink a portion of the plate and print the desired notes on a smaller sheet of paper. Interestingly, the impressions of three screw heads can be seen in the top margin of the Bank of Windsor notes. These screws would have been used to secure the plate in the press. The New Haven $100 has a small bottom edge tear. (Total: 2 sheets)
