New York, NY- Westbrook, Sokeland & Co. / Metropolitan Jewelers Association and Piano Forte Manufacturing Co. and Grand Commission Bazaar of New York $20 Advertising Note June 1, 1867 Vlack UNL PMG Choice Very Fine 35.According to a news item in the July 4, 1867 New York Times, the police shut down this firm which was a front for a very complex and elaborate illegal "lottery" swindle that offered various prizes. There were several very similarly named individuals and partnerships at different addresses in New York presenting themselves as the Metropolitan Jewelers Association and Piano Forte Manufacturing Co. This version carries the firm name of Westbrook, Sokeland & Co. and features a vignette of Ceres at left and a green 20 counter at upper right. An ornate green back contains ten 20 medallions.
