Description

Jefferson City, MO- State of Missouri (Secessionist) $2; $3; $5; $20 1862-64 Cr. 10C; Cr. 9; Cr. 6A; Cr. 1 Fine-Very Fine or Better.
While these notes are datelined Jefferson City, that was wishful thinking on the part of the secessionist state government which had fled Jefferson City in the early days of the war, never to return. These notes, if they were ever issued, were issued from "the back of a horse" as the state government roamed the state in the company of Confederate or militia units. The secessionist state government ended the war in Marshall, TX. The $2 has two large needle holes and a small fold split at top right while the $5 has some hinge adhesive residue at top center on the back along with a small black stamped text Prior to 1st, Nov'br 1861 whose purpose is unclear at present. (Total: 4 notes)
